REGULAR MEETING

OF THE

MARBLE ROCK CITY COUNCIL

Monday, June 2nd, 2014 7:00 P.M.

 

          The Regular Meeting of the Marble Rock City Council was called to order with Mayor Engelhardt presiding with Councilpersons Ackley, Marzen, Schmidt, Schriever, and Wells present. Various citizens were present. Mayor Engelhardt led the Pledge of Allegiance.

         

          Moved Marzen/seconded Ackley to approve agenda as amended: addition of M. Water Project and N. Golf Carts/Four Wheelers. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Schmidt to depart from agenda to accommodate guest. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

         

          Keith from Brown Supply spoke to the council about new water meters and a new water meter reader.

         

          Moved Ackley/seconded Marzen to purchase ten new water meters and a new meter reader. Roll: Ayes- Ackley, Maren, Schmidt, Schriever. Nays- Wells. Carried.

 

          Barry Winters spoke to the council about having Fun Days on August 16th. He is looking for volunteers to help put some activities together.

 

          Susan Nelson spoke to the council about the Park trees needing some trimming done before RAGBRAI comes through town.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Wells to have Ken Parcher trim trees in the park with the expenses being no more than $500. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Marzen to return to the Agenda. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Schmidt to accept the minutes of the May 5th, 2014 regular Meeting. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Wells to approve the monthly reports. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Income for the month of April totaled $17,373.52 which includes:  General Fund $4,685.30, Library Fund $99.02, Comm. Center Fund $0.00, Park Board Fund $0.00, Employee Benefits $916.94, Road Revenue Fund $1,439.94, TIF Fund $1,637.62, Landfill-Garbage/Recycling Fund $474.47, Sewer Revenue Fund $2,488.83, Water Revenue Fund $5,730.42.

 

          Moved Schmidt/seconded Schriever to approve the claims as amended.  Roll: Ayes- Ackley, Marzen, Schmidt, Schriever- Abstain- Well. Carried. Total of all city claims were $95,182.95

MAYOR’S REPORT: The RAGBRAI committee have been meeting and getting several things accomplished. There will be food and beverages sold at the park. The next meeting is Friday June 6th at the City Hall. We are still looking for volunteers. Anyone interested is encouraged to sign up at City Hall.

 

          Moved Marzen/seconded Schriever to approval of Stop-N-Shop’s cigarette renewal of permit. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Marzen/seconded Wells to purchase a chain linked fence from Jerry Engelhardt to be placed around the well and water tower. Purchase to be no more than $500.00. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Marzen/seconded Ackley to have the Mayor appoint Dave Krull and Carol Wreghitt to the Library board for another term. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Wells to waive the first reading of a RAGBRAI ordinance with the amendments of it being Marble Rock, and to set a date for a Public Hearing on July 7th, 2014 at 7:00p.m. for the RAGBRAI ordinance. Roll: Ayes- Ackley, Marzen, Schmidt, Schriever, Wells. All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Wells to allow the Community Center to transfer their liquor license to the park for 24 hrs. on July 24th, 2014. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Ackley/seconded Wells to waive the subdivision improvements for Bradley Rohwedder submitted by Noah, Smith and Schuknecht, P.L.C. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Moved Marzen/seconded Ackley to allow the Marble Rock Fire and Rescue to have a 5k on August 2nd, 2014 in Marble Rock. Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.

 

          Other items discussed: The council discussed looking into the ordinance on golf carts and four wheelers. The council also talked a little on properties with long grass and abandoned cars.

         

          Moved Marzen/seconded Ackley to adjourn the meeting at 8:28p.m.  Roll: Ayes- All. Carried.
